Keyboard Shortcuts

F1 (Help)

Press F1 to open the context-sensitive Help file. If you put focus on a command or dialog (by mouse or keyboard) and press F1, the Help window appears containing information specific to the focus item.

ALT+F4 (File Exit)

Press ALT+F4 as a shortcut for choosing File Exit. This command quits the P-CAD Schematic program. If any open design has been modified since the last save, you are prompted whether you want to save the changes to the file. The program writes configuration information to the Sch.ini file when you quit the program.

ALT + left click

For any click-and-drag or drag-and-drop operation, you can hold down the ALT key, click the left mouse button, then move or drag the object wherever you want without having to keep the mouse button depressed. Without the ALT key, you would normally have to press and hold down the mouse button while dragging an object.

Arrow keys

Press an arrow key to move the cursor to the next grid point. If you press CTRL+arrow, the cursor moves 10 grid points, which can be used to pan the screen.

CTRL + mouse click

You can copy-and-drag an object by selecting the object, holding down CTRL and clicking the left mouse button in the selected object region, and dragging a copy of the object to a location and releasing to paste the object.

CTRL+C (Edit Copy)

Press CTRL+C as a shortcut for choosing Edit Copy.

CTRL+N (File New)

Press CTRL+N as a shortcut for choosing File New. This command opens a new, untitled window in the workspace.

CTRL+O (File Open)

Press CTRL+O as a shortcut for choosing File Open. When you choose this command, the Open dialog box appears. Use this dialog to navigate to the file you want to open.

CTRL+P (File Print)

Press CTRL+P as a shortcut for choosing File Print. When you choose this command, the File Print dialog appears. Use this dialog to print sheets from your design and set options for your output.

CTRL+S (File Save)

Press CTRL+S as a shortcut for choosing File Save. This command saves any changes to the active design file. To save a copy of the file under a different name or in a different location, choose File Save As.

CTRL+V (Edit Paste)

Press CTRL+V as a shortcut for choosing Edit Paste.

CTRL+X (Edit Cut)

Press CTRL+X as a shortcut for choosing Edit Cut.

CTRL+Z (Edit Undo)

Press CTRL+Z as a shortcut for choosing Edit Undo. This command reverses a completed action. If you have not completed your action (e.g., you are in Place Line mode and have not finished a series of segments), Undo will not reverse the action. Use the BACKSPACE key to unwind the unfinished actions when you are in a placement mode.

CTRL+F4

Press CTRL+4 to close the active window.

CTRL+F6 and CTRL+Tab

Press CRTL+F6 or CTRL+TAB to switch focus to the next open window. Press CTRL+SHIFT+F6 to switch focus to the previous window.

SHIFT +D

Press SHIFT+D to change the reference designator to the highest unused preceding reference designator.

SHIFT +P

Press SHIFT+P to change the reference designator to the previous gate.

SHIFT+F4 (Window Tile)

Press SHIFT+F4 as a shortcut for choosing Windows Tile. Windows are resized and arranged side-by-side so that all windows are visible and none overlap.

SHIFT+F5 (Window Cascade)

Press SHIFT+F5 as a shortcut for choosing Windows Cascade. All windows overlap, starting in the upper-left corner of your Workspace. You can see each window's title, making it easy to switch between windows.

DEL (Edit Delete)

Press DELETE as a shortcut for choosing Edit Delete. This command deletes all selected objects.

Backspace

Press BACKSPACE to choose the unwind command while placing objects with multiple segments (e.g., lines, polygons). Each BACKSPACE stroke unwinds the previously placed segment.

ESC (escape)

Press ESC to terminate placement of objects with multiple segments; it also cancels a redraw in progress. In many cases, you can press ESC as a substitute for right-clicking. ESC also exits from dialogs (equaling the Close or Cancel buttons).

+ plus key (zoom in)

Press the + key as a shortcut for choosing View Zoom In. The keypad plus key also works. The plus key causes a zoom in to occur at the cursor location. The plus key does not change the cursor to a zoom cursor, as do the zoom commands from the View menu.

- minus key (zoom out)

Press the - key as a shortcut for choosing View Zoom Out. The keypad minus key also works. The minus key causes a zoom out to occur at the cursor location. The minus key does not change the cursor to a zoom cursor, as do the zoom commands from the View menu.

SPACEBAR

Press the SPACEBAR to simulate left mouse button actions. To simulate a mouse click, press and release the SPACEBAR twice. To simulate pressing and holding down the mouse button, press the SPACEBAR once.
As the left mouse button is used in such a variety of ways throughout the P-CAD program, this SPACEBAR can become a regular part of your work.

C key (view center)

Press C as a shortcut for choosing View Center. This command gives you the ability to center your cursor location. Place the cursor in the area of your design that you want centered and press C.

D key

Press D to change the reference designator to the next available reference designator.

E key (play macro)

Press E to run (execute) the temporary macro (named _DEFAULT). Temporary macros are recorded by activating the macro toggle button (or the M key) to begin recording, and deactivating the button to end recording. Each successive temporary macro overwrites the previous one. See Macro Record/Stop for information about the temporary macro and the macro toggle button.

F key (flip object)

Press F to flip an object during Place and Select operations. Not all objects can be flipped. See Edit Select for more information about flipping objects.
The F key also switches between orthogonal mode pairs; see Options Configure Dialog for details on orthogonal modes.

G key

Press G to scroll forward through the list of grid settings. Press SHIFT+G to scroll back through the list.

L and SHIFT+L keys

Press L to sequence forward through the sheets in the design file of the active window; Press SHIFT+L to sequence backward through the sheets.

M key (record macro)

Press M in place of clicking the macro toggle button (M button on the status line) to start or stop the recording of a temporary macro (see E key description). See Macro Record/Stop for information about the temporary macro and the Macro toggle button.

O and SHIFT+O keys (orthogonal mode)

Press O to sequence forward through the orthogonal modes during placement of wires and lines. Press SHIFT+O to sequence backward throughout the modes. Press the F key to switch between orthogonal mode pairs. Orthogonal modes are set in the Options Configure dialog.

P key

Press P to change the reference designator to the next gate.

R key (rotate)

Press R to rotate objects 90 degrees during Place and Select operations. For more information about rotating objects with Place and Select operations, see Edit Select.

S key (select)

Press S as a shortcut for choosing Edit Select. In Select mode you are able to click on objects to highlight them, then move, rotate, delete, duplicate, and otherwise modify them.

U key (undo)

Press U as a shortcut for choosing Edit Undo, which reverses a completed action. See Edit Undo for more information. For the unwind feature, see the BACKSPACE key description in this section.

Z key (zoom window)

Press Z as a shortcut for choosing View Zoom Window. Just press Z and then draw the zoom window; a zoom cursor (magnifying glass) appears until you draw the zoom window. Whatever you surround with the zoom window fills the screen.

Virtual Path Identifier (VPI)---In conjunction with the VCI, identifies the next destination of a cell as it passes through a series of ATM switches on the way to its destination.

Virtual Channel Identifier (VCI)---In conjunction with the VPI, identifies the next destination of a cell as it passes through a series of ATM switches on the way to its destination.

Payload Type (PT)---Indicates in the first bit whether the cell contains user data or control data. If the cell contains user data, the second bit indicates congestion, and the third bit indicates whether the cell is the last in a series of cells that represent a single AAL5 frame.

Congestion Loss Priority (CLP)---Indicates whether the cell should be discarded if it encounters extreme congestion as it moves through the network. If the CLP bit equals 1, the cell should be discarded in preference to cells with the CLP bit equal to zero.

Header Error Control (HEC)---Calculates checksum only on the header itself.

Generic Flow Control (GFC)---Provides local functions, such as identifying multiple stations that share a single ATM interface. This field is typically not used and is set to its default value.

PACE
PACES (Product And Component Enterprise System) is a data management system which is part of the corporate DtM (Design to Manufacture) tool suite. Through PACES, the PACE (Product Assurance and Component Engineering) group
evaluate, approve, record, and disseminate, component information to the design, manufacturing, and supply management organizations.

PACES is the corporate database of record for the following: supplier data; customs import/export data; and the codes (CPC, PEC, etc.) that identify Nortel Networks products and the components used to build those products.

PACES also includes a request system that is used by designers and LOB component primes to request CPC and CAD coding for components. This request system is supported via a web based application called partSMart .
